Installation Guide

This guide walks you through installing Store QA Tool and running your first scan. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.

1

Install the App

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Apps
  2. Search for “Store QA Tool” and open its listing
  3. Click “Add app”, review the permissions, and click “Install app” to confirm
  4. You’ll automatically be taken to the Store QA Tool Home page

Read-only permissions

Store QA Tool requests read_content, read_online_store_navigation, read_online_store_pages, read_products, and read_themes. There is no write scope - the app can see your store to audit it, but it can never change your catalog, theme, or pages.
2

Run Your First Scan

  1. From the Home page, click Run your first scan (or open the Scans tab)
  2. Click Run Tier 1 scan - no configuration is required for a first run
  3. Watch the progress bar move from crawling your storefront to checking each page

A Tier 1 scan is free and checks your storefront and theme automatically, with no setup needed.

3

Review Your Findings

Once the scan completes, you’ll see:

  • How many pages were checked
  • A badge per check showing how many issues it found (green means zero)
  • A list of every finding, each with a severity, its exact location, and a plain-language fix instruction

Where SQA knows the exact admin resource, a finding includes an Open in admin link straight to it; storefront-only findings link to Open page instead.

4

Set Your Scan Defaults (Optional)

Open the Settings tab to configure what every future scan uses by default:

  • Preview URL and password - scan a private or staging storefront instead of your live one
  • Disallowed words - flag specific words anywhere on your pages or in your theme’s source
  • Allowed languages - languages your store copy is expected to be in
  • Automatic scans - turn on a daily or weekly schedule
  • Checks to run - turn off any check you don’t need

None of this is required before your first scan - every check is on by default. See Scan Settings for the full list of options.

5

Fix Issues and Re-Scan

  1. Use each finding’s fix instruction and admin/page link to make the change in Shopify
  2. Once you’ve fixed what you want to fix, run another scan
  3. SQA automatically compares it to your last scan - fixed issues are marked resolved, and anything still open shows as recurring

Dismiss what you don't want to fix

Found a false positive, or an issue you’re intentionally leaving as-is? Click Dismiss on that finding - it stays dismissed across future scans instead of resurfacing as new every time.

What's Next?

Congratulations! You now have a completed scan with findings you can act on. Here’s what you can explore next:

  • Turn on automatic scans so you don’t have to remember to check back
  • Add a private preview URL in Settings if you want to audit a staging theme before it goes live
  • Upload a theme .zip from the Scans page to audit a theme before it’s ever pushed to your store
  • Explore what gets checked to understand exactly what a Tier 1 scan covers
