Reviewing & Approving

This is the human gate Dropshipping Product Optimizer is built around: a run never touches your catalog until you’ve reviewed it and clicked approve.

Run Statuses

A run moves through these statuses, shown as a pill in the Runs tab and on the run’s own page:

  • Pending - just created, not yet picked up
  • Previewing - generating before/after diffs. Nothing is written yet
  • Awaiting approval - every product has a preview and is waiting on your decision
  • Applying - your approved changes are being written to your catalog
  • Completed - every approved product has been applied
  • Failed / Cancelled - the run stopped before completing

Any run waiting on you shows up in a Waiting for your approval banner at the top of the Runs tab, listing every pending run with a one-line product preview and a Review button.

Reviewing Each Diff

Open a run and you’ll see, for every product, a set of Before/After cards:

  • Title, SEO title, SEO description, and Description
  • Options - translated names/values, with notices for any option being removed or renamed
  • Prices - a Before/After table for every variant
  • URL handle - only shown if the URL handle rewrite is enabled and changed
  • Notices for duplicate variants being merged, tags removed by the dropshipping scrub, and image alt text being cleaned up
  • A Why these changes card explaining, in plain language, what the pipeline did to this product and why

Each item also carries its own status: Pending, Previewed, Applied, Failed, Skipped, or Reverted.

Revert cannot undo everything in this change

Revert restores titles, descriptions, SEO fields, and prices from the original snapshot. It cannot recreate deleted options or undo option renames. Whenever a run’s proposed changes include one of these, a warning banner calls it out before you approve.

Editing Proposed Copy

Don’t like a specific line the AI wrote? On any item still in the Previewed state (before you’ve approved it), click Edit copy to hand-edit the Title, SEO title, SEO description, and Description directly - with live character counters against Shopify’s limits. This is the fastest way to fix one product without spending another AI call re-running it. An edited item is marked with an Edited by you badge so you can see at a glance which products you touched by hand.

Failures and Skips

If an AI call fails for a specific product, that item shows Original copy kept - the AI call failed: the title, description, and SEO text are left unchanged, but variant cleanup and price rounding still ran. Run that product again in a new run to retry the AI copy.

A product with nothing to change is marked skipped, with the note “Nothing to change - skipped, and not counted against your quota.”

Excluding Items You Don't Want

Every item has a checkbox. Untick any product you don’t want included, then approve - only the ticked products are written to your catalog and count toward your quota. A run with only one product has no checkbox - with nothing to choose a subset of, it’s always fully included.

Approve & Apply

Click Approve & apply N product(s) to write the approved changes to your catalog. The run moves to Applying, then Completed once every item has been written. A banner above the button always tells you exactly what approving will do - how many products will be written, or that nothing is selected and you should reject instead.

Reject

Reject discards the whole run - nothing from it is applied, and your catalog stays exactly as it is now. It only appears when your selection is at one of two “clean” ends: every item still checked, or every item unticked. With a partial selection, unticking the items you don’t want and clicking Approve already expresses your intent more precisely than a full reject would.

Reject and Cancel are the same action

Behind the scenes, Reject on an awaiting-approval run and Cancel on an in-progress run trigger the identical stop-the-run operation - Reject is simply how that action is framed once there’s a finished proposal in front of you to decide on, rather than work still happening.

Cancelling a Run

You can cancel a run while it’s pending, previewing, or applying. Cancelling stops further work - products already applied stay applied, and nothing is rolled back automatically.

Reverting an Applied Product

Changed your mind after approving? Open the run and click Revert on any individual applied product. It restores that product’s title, description, SEO fields, and prices from the original snapshot immediately, with no need to touch the rest of the run.

A revert doesn't refund

The optimization work was already done and written to your catalog, so reverting a product doesn’t change what it counted toward for billing that cycle. See Plans & Billing for what counts as billable.
